If the universe is expanding in every direction then how does one concieve of a "singularity" that becomes the big bang. In other words, if the universe has no center then Where the heck is the big bang to have originated?

Yeah, I know I'm just a small-minded layman, but I find this Big Bang theory no less dubious than the genesis nonsense found in the bible.
